What we collect
We keep things minimal, and there is no account to create. Your nightly ritual — which nights you lit a star, your current streak and your longest streak — is stored only in your own browser’s local storage on your own device. We cannot read it, we never receive a copy of it, and clearing your browser data deletes it permanently.
Three things reach our server. When you light tonight’s star, we increment an anonymous collective counter (the “N people lit a star tonight” line) — a number only, with no identifier attached to it. When you choose to share your sky, two things happen. The four small numbers that draw your constellation — stars lit (n), current streak (s), longest streak (l), and a layout fingerprint (f) — are encoded into the share link itself so the picture can be redrawn for whoever opens it. And one snapshot row is stored in our database so the link can be shortened: the same four numbers, indexed by an opaque random id. The row carries no identifier, no IP address and no session id. Nothing in it can be joined to a person, and nothing in it can be joined to the night counter. Nothing you type is collected, because there is nothing to type.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to count aggregate, anonymised usage — how many people opened the site, lit a star, or shared a sky — so we can tell whether the product is worth continuing. We do not use it to identify you, and we do not combine it with any other data.
Advertising & cookies
We use Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its partners use cookies (including the DoubleClick DART cookie) to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. Consent for advertising and analytics cookies is collected through Google’s certified consent management platform, and until you grant it, Google Consent Mode keeps ad and analytics storage denied. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time, and you can clear cookies in your browser.
You can also opt out of personalised advertising directly via Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info/choices.
Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)
You have the right to access, correct, export or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to or withdraw consent for personalised advertising. Because your streak lives only on your device, you can exercise the deletion right yourself at any moment by clearing this site’s data in your browser. We do not sell personal information, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
